An OLED display (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) uses organic compounds to emit light when an electric current is applied. Unlike traditional LCD displays, OLEDs do not require a backlight because each individual pixel generates its own light. 

This fundamental difference enables OLED displays to deliver unparalleled contrast, vibrant colours, and incredibly deep blacks.

The lack of a backlight means they are very slim and lightweight and extremely energy efficient.
