Anders and Comelit. A Secure Partnership put on Display. The Critical Success Factor is Collaboration

Daniele Licini, Hardware Manager at Comelit, an Italian company operating on a worldwide scale and specialising in the design and manufacture of various building control systems, tells us why it was critically important, for their product performance, to work with a company like Anders.

The challenge

The security and surveillance industries are buoyant markets. It is now normal behaviour, regardless of where you are or what you are doing to be able to answer your door entry system from your smartphone. As a result, the engineering challenge is to integrate varying technologies into appliances, platforms and applications. The key point is to keep connected and integrated with the devices available in the market.

The project

The design, engineering, and development of an eight-inch touch TFT Display panel for the door entry phone system. Its development is complex and needs to consider:

Exposure to sunlight
Extreme temperatures
Rainwater
Vandalism
Reliability at all times

Whilst making the product easy to use and aesthetically pleasing.

The solution

Whilst the specific industry was new to Anders the technology and the performance requirements were not. We have a proven track record of working with not only some of the leading brand names, but also small and emerging companies, therefore demonstrating our understanding of the needs of varying technologies and applications.

As the product is operational outdoors, it can be subjected to heavy rain on the screen. As a result of this challenge Anders suggested a specific controller for the touch element of the waterproof panel. We also provided guidance and engineering consultation regarding the type of glass that should be used to ensure the product stood up to the challenging requirements for this type of application. The glass that is now displayed within Comelit’s door entry systems has a thicker coverlens screen and optical bonding for the level of durability required for outdoor applications, therefore being vandal proof to IK08 standards.

One of the main reasons that we selected Anders was their expertise in touch technology and particular outdoor applications which have lots of challenges. Their knowledge ensured we had a product was not only water resistant and readable in sunlight, but also vandal proof. We were able to see the quality of their products first hand when we visited their manufacturing facility. By seeing the assembly, the products and the control in place, we were confident we were dealing with the right company.
