Display cleaning for robust optical bonding

We all happily get in and out of our cars daily, without any question of whether the windscreen is sturdy. So it makes sense that we want to offer this level of reliability and confidence in our displays.

We are constantly looking at new ways to provide the highest quality products and our partner, Data Image, very much share this passion. We are excited that they have invested in Plasma cleaning, a process commonly used in windscreen lamination in the automotive industry.

Optical bonding is one of the most effective ways of improving the appearance as well as the mechanical strength of a display and through working closely with clients in the Marine industry, a need to deliver even more robust and reliable displays was realised.

Obviously, it is key that the surfaces being bonded are completely clean.

Until now a wiping technique has been used, which is an industry standard and very effective but does carry a very small risk of wiping marks which mean that the surfaces must be re-cleaned.

What are the benefits of Plasma Cleaning?

By ensuring the display is completely clean before the optical bonding process means stronger lamination and increased mechanical strength. A Plasma Cleaning machine (PLAUX) is used to ensure displays are cleaned even more effectively and results in even stronger optical bonding. It can lessen the adhesion of dirt on the sensor and even remove organic residues. The PLAUX Plasma cleaning machine is widely used for PCB, FPC, LED, LCD, SMT, automotive, plastics, biomedical and other industries.

The optical bonding process

Figure 1 shows the production flow process. The side of the display that requires bonding needs to be cleaned before optical bonding begins. It eliminates the small risk of scratch and wiping marks that can occasionally occur when wiping technique is used.
