Understanding EMC Conducted Noise Immunity for Touchscreens

One of the main concerns for capacitive touch circuits that are used for delivering User Interfaces for products is Conducted Noise Immunity (or CNI). Susceptibility to conducted current disturbances and its impact on touchscreen performance is often overlooked at the start of a design but should be factored-in early, or can become costly further down the line.

Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) or 'noise' can cause inaccurate readings from your touchscreen. Touchscreens can be a source of noise, but noise can also come from ambient light, a display or charger.

  • It's possible effects on the your end produc
  • I will suggest ways of detecting CNI and resolving issues
  • Why it is important to consider Electromagnetic Compatability (EMC) regulations from the very start of any project
