Drop that LCD: drop in a TFT!

Be honest, LCD character displays haven’t cut it for a while on instrument front panels. In our smartphone-enabled world, displays have to be colour, and something needs to happen when you touch them.

If you’ve been thinking this yourself but been prevented from making a change because you can’t find a colour TFT to fit the aperture in your enclosure, think again.

TFT DisplayUsing a new process, we’re able to take standard 4.3” and 2.8” colour TFT displays and cut them to the height that you specify. Yes, there is a small upfront NRE charge, but I really do mean small – something like one-tenth of the cost of engineering a custom display. The MoQ is very low. Our semi-custom service is very economical for a thousand units, and we will produce much less than this if we need to.

At the moment, we’re offering this just on 4.3” and 2.8” colour graphics TFT displays which are 10.5 and 5 cm wide respectively – but if that size doesn’t work come and talk to us. We can also customise this display in other ways too, adding touch control, FPCs and a backlight for example. The work is carried out at an ISO9001 accredited site, with the appropriate cleanroom facilities.

This semi-custom service is also useful in other systems. For example, it is very hard to fit a colour TFT into a 1U rackmount case.

Now really is the time to bring your instrument front panel into the smartphone age, and really set it apart with a colour graphics touchscreen. It has been shown time and time again that a good user interface design has a direct impact on sales, and on user satisfaction
