Computer on Modules (COM’s), or System on Modules (SOM’s) are standard, tiny sized, fully featured computers consisting of a microprocessor, RAM, I/O, and a host of other functionalities. These modules are then mounted onto a custom ‘baseboard’ or ‘carrierboard’ which contains the specific connectors, peripherals and any other electronics specific to your application requirements. This approach is a great solution for many OEM’s who want to keep development costs low, shorten time to market, yet still have some flexibility and design control.
