How to Deliver Multi-touch at Single Touch Prices

Consumer-Style Interfaces for Commerce and Industry - Thanks, at least in part, to Steve Jobs and Apple (see Blog post dated 26/01/12)  OEMs and system integrators are under pressure to create industrial and commercial systems that offer enhanced user experience through intuitive touch interfaces. And, for a generation of users for whom iPad-style interaction is the baseline for a successful product experience multitouch is becoming a mandatory rather than a desirable requirement.

The challenge, to date, however, has been how to deliver multitouch in way that is in line with the cost pressures associated with low-to-medium volume ‘non consumer products’. Now, however, there is a solution: ShadowSense™.

No, it’s not the name of the latest James Bond film but a revolutionary new 2D and 3D tracking technology billed as a potential ‘game-changer’ for the rapidly growing medium to large size touch industry. As the name implies, ShadowSense – which uses touch sensor LEDs integrated into a bezel and independent of the glass surface meaning that any glass can be used to provide a protective window – accurately measures the position of a given object’s shadow. Because the technology is simple and effective it can deliver multitouch applications for prices comparable with traditional single touch designs.
